I find that the Rhetorical Analysis Essay was the most difficult essay I had to write this year. I know that Mr.Thomas made it as easy as possible, but it's kind of hard to find Rhetorical Devices in random passages. Then it becomes even harder when you have to look for devices in passages that literally has no devices. I had this difficulty on the AP exam and it frustrated me, but I concentrated and I found 3. I even had to use tone as one of my devices, because it's difficult trying to remember devices and their definitions.
The easiest essay in my opinion was the Synthesis Essay. I know that people would expect this to be the hardest essay;however, if you just use your sources correctly then it becomes easier and you can embed your ideas into your essay even if you don't know anything about the prompt. What makes it even easier is that you don't have to use all of the sources, and you can cross out the sources that are irrelevant or sound too biased. The synthesis essay is just an essay that test your ability to understand sources and write an effective essay in a limited amount of time. Mr. Thomas instructed us very well on how to limit our time, and it has helped me.
I enjoyed In Cold Blood because it's actual event that happened and it stirs suspense throughout the whole book. Its entertaining because it's about murderers and it kept me drawn into the book. I really enjoy non-fictional books and this happens to be my favorite.
My least favorite book unfortunately is the Things They Carried. It's not necessarily my least favorite, its just I didn't have that much time to get into dept of the book because I had so much other things going on. I like the book to be honest, but I just didn't have the patience.
Thank you for teaching me this year, and having the patience to deal with all of my mistakes. You are a good teacher and thank you for being clear on the things we needed to learn and not being so strict. It's been a relaxing year being in your class, and I hope you keep that trait.
